My Faith Journey: From Doubt to Rooted in the Word

For 10 years, I thought I was living the Christian life. I was baptized, I confessed Jesus as my Savior, and I believed He was the Son of God. I went to church every Sunday, helped at potlucks, and volunteered at events. But despite doing all the “right” things, something felt missing. I kept asking myself, Is this really it? I felt there had to be more to life than just following routines and traditions.

Maybe you’ve felt this too: the doubt and uncertainty about what happens after this life, or whether your actions truly matter here on Earth. Or perhaps you’ve opened the Bible and felt like you were trying to solve a mystery without any clues. It’s overwhelming. I’d leave church on Sundays feeling hopeful, but by lunch, the message was already fading. I struggled with how to make sense of it all, and at times, it felt like I was going through the motions without fully grasping what it all meant.

Then, everything changed. We moved to a small, isolated town in Tennessee. It was there, in a tiny church of just 40 members, that I found what I had been searching for. The church was full of families whose faith had been passed down for generations. It was more than just a building—it was a community, a true family in Christ.

I began attending a women’s Bible study on Wednesday nights, and it was there that I experienced something I had never known. The women in that group listened to me, encouraged me, and showed me what true community in Christ was about. I had always been shy, even afraid to speak up, but in this group, I found the courage to open up about my struggles, my past, and my doubts. For the first time, I felt like I belonged.

One woman, in particular, helped unlock something within me. Her name was Melanie. She had lived through similar struggles, and she understood me and my daughter better than we understood ourselves. She didn’t just give me answers; she led me to the tools and the confidence to seek God for myself. She made the Bible less of a puzzle and more of a personal guide. She created in me a thirst for learning that I had never felt before, and that thirst has only grown.

I had been a "Christian" in the eyes of others, but it was through Melanie’s love and wisdom that I truly understood what it means to walk with God. Her love for others was as close to Christ’s love as I had ever seen, and it made me want to pass that on to others.

Though we eventually moved back to our home state, I carry with me the lessons she taught me, and the gift she gave me—the gift of faith. This journey, this website, is dedicated to Melanie, to the women who have helped me grow, and to you. Whether you’re just beginning your faith journey or are struggling with doubts and questions, I want to invite you to walk with me and others as we grow, learn, and stay rooted in God’s Word together.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul." – Psalm 23:1-3

I am so grateful for those who have walked alongside me in this journey, and I hope you’ll find the same support, encouragement, and inspiration here as you continue on your own path.
